Should Christians Allow Their Baby Boys To Be Circumcised?

The United States is the only major country in the world which performs routine infant circumcisions. Europeans think we are barbarians!

Many Christians say they had their sons circumcised to keep the penis cleaner, to prevent infections or because they wanted the son to look like their father. All of those bogus reasons and others are covered within the pages of this website.  Few people have any idea the origins of routine circumcision in the United States and the fact it was given a big boost by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the Seventh Day Adventist inventor of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.  Dr. Kellogg advocated circumcision as punishment and a cure for masturbation back in the Victorian era when sex was considered dirty, even within the covenant of marriage!

Dr. Kellogg’s Corn Flakes invention was designed to cure men’s and boy’s sex drives!  It didn’t work!  Dr. Kellogg was a lunatic and a maniac, but he and a few others very passionate against God-created human sexuality are some of the main reasons routine circumcision became so common in the United States. Anyone open-minded and caring enough to study for themselves will find out that truth.

Courtesy of WikiPedia,  here is what Dr. John Harvey Kellogg wrote about sex, masturbation and circumcision:

“A remedy which is almost always successful in small boys is circumcision, especially when there is any degree of phimosis. The operation should be performed by a surgeon without administering an anesthetic, as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment, as it may well be in some cases. The soreness which continues for several weeks interrupts the practice, and if it had not previously become too firmly fixed, it may be forgotten and not resumed.[42]

a method of treatment [to prevent masturbation] … and we have employed it with entire satisfaction. It consists in the application of one or more silver sutures in such a way as to prevent erection. The prepuce, or foreskin, is drawn forward over the glans, and the needle to which the wire is attached is passed through from one side to the other. After drawing the wire through, the ends are twisted together, and cut off close. It is now impossible for an erection to occur, and the slight irritation thus produced acts as a most powerful means of overcoming the disposition to resort to the practice

In females, the author has found the application of pure carbolic acid (phenol) to the clitoris an excellent means of allaying the abnormal excitement.”

Before Dr. Kellogg and some of his cohorts came on the scene, circumcision was NEVER practiced by the vast majority of Christians in the entire world for over 1800 years!! It was only practiced among Jews and Muslims and today, many Jews and some Muslims are saying “No” to circumcision!

I cannot emphasize enough that most people never study this subject for themselves!  Most Christians have never studied the difference between Old Covenant circumcision – a blood sacrifice for sin, and what the Bible calls “circumcision of the heart” in the New Covenant.

While this website is designed with the Christian in mind, it is intended to provide accurate information on the subject of circumcision to any open-minded reader.  Once you finally study the subject for yourself, you will literally be astounded, amazed, and flabbergasted at what you find out!

Please hear me when I tell you this website is not intended to make you feel sad or mad if you had the misfortune of circumcising your sons and are now a regret parent, or will become one.  If you follow through and study all the available information, there is a significant chance you may become a regret parent, grandparent, etc.  But God is a loving father filled with love and forgiveness. That doesn’t always come out so clearly when we read the pages of the old testament, but thank God for the new testament and the fact that Jesus came into the world to teach us how to love, how to forgive others and how to forgive ourselves!

Every reference in the entire Bible that mentions circumcision is included in the headings Old Covenant and New Covenant on this website.

If you really want to know what the Bible says about circumcision in its entirety, please take some time and read the references.  If you are mostly interested in what the new testament has to say, then start with the New Covenant, Part 1 section.

We don’t stop with the Bible teaching. We also have links and information that will help any person who really desires to learn the truth about CIRCUMCISION. It’s difficult to come to terms with something so ingrained in our psyche that almost no one ever gave questioned the practice or gave it much thought. There were a few forerunners of today’s modern intactivist movement such as Rosemary Romberg and Marilyn Milos, both nurses who began to question the practice back in the 1970s.

My study and interest in the truth about circumcision started well over 50 years ago. In our junior high school (believe it or not), the boys were completely nude in their swim class. A few of the boys were intact (not circumcised) back there in the early 1960s, but not very many. We probably had about a 90% circumcision rate at that time. Today, it ranges from 20% to over 80%, depending on the area of the country. The California area has the lowest rate and the northeast Great Lakes corridor still has the highest rate!

Because of this very modest exposure to what the uncut natural male organ looked like, I knew I was not the same as the way God created me and I wanted to know why this was done. So, like many thousands of other men who are beginning to ask why, I sought to find whatever truth I could find and whether this was something I would want to do to any future kids I had. It took some time because I did not realize I had a circumcision scar in plain sight and that I was missing a God-given flap of skin with benign purposes. So, I began to research the matter and continue to do so to this day, learning more and more about a subject that, sadly, the majority of Americans know so little!

Usually when people are confronted with a different viewpoint on circumcision, the natural and wrong response is to dig in our heals. We just get angry. Typically, we ignore the subject completely or even call people names who espouse leaving our little boys whole. We often don’t even try to prove the other person wrong because our real knowledge at this point is abysmal.  I don’t have all the answers, but I do have some of them after studying the subject of circumcision for over 40 years and becoming very passionate about it as the years have gone by. God bless you as you study and consider or re-consider this subject that you might not know well.

This website is a work in progress.  We hope to give you thorough, yet brief information on most pages.  We hope that you will be willing to take a few minutes to tell us what you think, even if you disagree, and give us suggestions for improvements.  God bless you in your sincere quest for truth!      —Jerry Boor, Webmaster
